Osprey V22 mecha by Mecha-Zone Osprey V22 mecha by Mecha-Zone
This is another commission for the same guy that hired me for the Batmobile mecha! [link]

This time we have an Osprey V-22 tiltrotor aircraft as a shape changing mecha!

Here's the inked version of this mech [link]

:star: someone sent me a letter claiming to be a rep for Hasbro and told me to remove this image because of the GI Joe logo and Barroness likeness. I don't know if it was legit but didn't read legit to me and I have recevied a lot of legal messages in my days as an artist. Anyway, I removed the logos and baroness just in case. I think it looks even cooler without them anyway!

This is very awesome. I'm getting a feel of four things from this. 1) Darth Vader (the head, chest, and tall, black, and intimidating), 2) the Warhammer armors (except with not as bulky limbs), 3) Transformers (pretty obvious for this one), and 4) the head kinda reminds me of Cobra's helmet in Sigma 6

It was originally designed to be an agent of Cobra. There's a version with a little Baroness standing on the mechs' hip.

Hey dude, you know that incredibly expensive, and fatally unreliable helicopter the Osprey?

Yea, the one Washington keeps buying but we barely use. What about it?

They sent us another one, but get this, it turns into giant robot. Total lulz right?

God damn it... :(

*Fatally unreliable*? Where in the blinding hell did you get that information? It's predecessor was shit, but the Osprey is one of the best fast landing and exfil vehicles available to modern military!

Also, the military has been issued only very limited amounts, and even then, they use it to it's maximum capability!

I removed this from the Baroness group then. If there is no Baroness in the art, then there is no sense in having it in there. As for the message, this is false. The guy is just another troll. Warnings have been posted about him on DA.

You know, I have been working on this Transformer fan character of mine for like, ever, and I may tap you to give me a hand on what it should look like. I got the head design down solid, I am just not 100% sold on the design. its based of an AH-64, and as we all know, Heli TF's are lackluster with a few notable exceptions.

Interesting that you should mentioned that because I thought someone might. I enjoy the artwork of other people who draw sexy girls, it's just not what I want to do.

I try to make my people look more realistic. I don't draw SUPER sexy people. I also don't like to make the poses too "Sexy" because I think that is just slutty and I respect women too much to portray them that way. I was different when I was 25 and I drew more sexy women but my attitude has changed over the years. Who knows what I'll think in another 10 year?

I'm sure a few Joe's died trying to protect the data, but Cobra used it's guile and cunning to steal the secrets anyway.

Oh, and a few Cobra baddies, too. In one of the crossovers, Major Bludd became a major bloody mess inside Thundercracker, who'd had enough of his crap.

VERY much appreciated!! Especially since the book version won't have the baroness. This is just too perfect! I kinda went nuts when I saw it. :D The lineart and concept were already awesome... and now it just shot into the stratosphere of awesome.

Seems like a crowd favorite so far. No surprise really. Is the sunset background hand painted, or manipulated photo?

:iconmecha-zone:
Mecha-Zone Featured By Owner Apr 30, 2010  Professional General Artist
the background is a mixture of both. I took 4 different sky images (all blue daylight) and composited them. then I painted into them to make it work as a sunset (still all blue). Finally, I added the sunset colors using overlays.

The source images were pretty grainy so I had to do some photoshop sorcery to clean them up. I'm working really large... 13 x 19 at 600 dpi so it is hard to find good textures at that size.

What's really impressive to me after hearing that, is the background does NOT look overworked. Seems like a lot of steps, but you've avoided having it look 'fussy'. Very smooth and not at all overpowering the star mecha.

Dude, 13x19" at 600dpi? That's bloody huge? Was batman tumbler the same size? I usually shy away from such enormity so that the file can run faster... You must be working on a formidable computer.

Yep, the Batmech was the same size. The Batmech file (on disk) is approx 1 gig. Who knows how large it is in memory when the file is open. The Osprey is "only" 750 megs. My computer is pretty beefy, but these files still drag a bit when I'm almost done with them... mostly whenever I move the image around on the screen and the re-draw is slow and blocky.

Did the commissioner request it that large, or was it your call? Either way, nice to have it production-ready for a poster sized print.

AND thank you very much for the :+devwatch: of course!
