MechWarrior 4 Flea by Mecha-Zone MechWarrior 4 Flea by Mecha-Zone
MechWarrior4: Mercenaries. Flea.

A light mech that was a real blast to play IMHO.

This isn't the best drawing I have ever done, but I think the final in-game model turned out really well. I have to give a lot of credit to the modeler, Michael Richard, for taking the drawing and turning it into the battle machine you all know from the game. The proportions had to be changed (for the better) to fit one of the existing skeletons from MW4 Vengeance so it could share animations.

The old design for the mech isn't that bad but it sort of looks like a cooler with legs and we all thought it was a bit boring. A lot of my mech re-designs had to go through a lot of revisions but I think I only had to do this one drawing for the Flea and Microsoft approved it right away.

Here's the old design... [link]

It would make a great attack helicopter, if you placed rotors on top and removed the legs.

I used to pilot one of these and run circles around people in Fafnirs. It was hilarious! They were so annoyed! :D

Ah my favorite mech for travel. I had discovered it can carry a light PPC, but it's speed or armor had to be sacrificed to do so. Although it was fun to try in Solaris.

I'm not really a fan for most of the redesigns I have seen done to the mechs in any of the games, but in this case, it was warranted. The flea from the TRO sucks, but this one is actually pretty cool. It's a petty you can;t arm it with more than token pea shooters (though that wouldn't be a problem if we actually had some infantry to shoo).

Well, in the (legal) free download of Mercs from MekTek, you do get to shoot at (or play as) various Battle Armor, including the infamous Elementals.

Except hardly anyone ever plays infantry, and even when they do, there's not enough people playing as grunts for even the best battle armor to turn the tide. I personally think that it would be nice if they could find a way for someone playing as infantry to be controlling a squad/point instead of just one trooper; then they might actually be a threat.

Pity MS didn't release the source code.

True... perhaps in Multiplayer, we could organize a small army of Elementals to steal the Mech-jocks' thunder?

That would be interesting; I wouldn't mind romping around in a Toadie suit. How would we organize it though?
and when?

Eh, just get a bunch of people with the MekTek version to agree to play on a certain server - perhaps one supported by MekTek directly? - on the same team, as toads. If we can get enough people doing it through word-of-mouth, we'll have a chance at carrying the day against even Atlases, and we'll make the buggers' eyes water!

Not sure when we'd do this, though - sometime in July?

some people like to feel like the underdog. Also, it's speed was pretty fun.

Sad thing is when the Flea manages to not be the underdog. I just had a fight with a standard Fafnir using a Flea carrying only an ER Large Laser... The Fafnir never even managed to touch my Flea, which is good, because one good shot would have killed it.

As much as this little bastard had a serious lack of firepower (even against another light mech) I still loved the design. Good to finally know who designed the MW4 Flea  Very nice

Oh the flea.
I like the flea. Especially when I feel like annoying the crap out of everyone in the server... or when everybody uses WildCats (added by Mektek) which most people equip with PPCs and Gausses.
The flea is the perfect mech to evade such weapons and believe it or not, I've seen fleas kill Fafnirs, I've killed Gladiators, Black Knights and Wild Cats with it.

Of course if the enemy mounts lasers I'm as good as dead :|

Anyway I love it. And my friend finds it to be the cutest mech of the game lol.

I actually had a pretty failarious fight with a light 'Mech - an Osiris with a maxed-out engine, to be specific, but whatever. I was playing with a Supernova that, as a joke, I had fitted out with just 20 TAG Lasers, and the Osiris came running at me. I jumped as I ran at it, and thought I would come down a little in front of it.

I landed on top of the smug little git in a perfect, textbook-quality Death From Above maneuver. Clearly, when your enemy has a cruel sense of humor, no Light Mech can save you.

What's worse is that it was an accident - I meant to hunt it down, slowly killing it with perhaps the silliest weapon available, a weapon that has a damage listing of 0.00, but in fact does do a tiny amount of damage, though still hardly noticeable when you're firing twenty of them.

Mechwarrior Rules!

I played Mechwarrior 4, but I never bought the expancions. I Didn't know Flea was included.

P.S.

If you haven't seen it already. Check out the trailer for the new Mechwarrior game. Looks awsome. :D

The flea was in Mercenaries, which was actually a stand alone game based on the BK engine. There were two mech packs that added 4 mechs each and some multiplayer levels.

...and I have seen the new mech trailers but I wasn't impressed. It does look light years better than the last mech game, but there have been so many other next gen games that I am desensetized to awesomeness... :O

It's hard for most games to stand out from the rest, with graphics being so good these days. =)

The nostagia is what gets me on this one though. Mech-Assault 1 and 2 were ok games but I loved Mechwarrior. Mech-Assault was 'too' high tech for me. I liked the whole walking battle tank feel of the original, not so stream-lined. I can't remember what year the mech-assault's were supposed to have occured. I was thinking it was later than 3015, in which this new one takes place. Thus the stream-lines mechs.

Either way, I'm personaly thrilled that they finally got it into their thick heads to make another one. Besides I'm not as desensetized, due to the fact that I'm still without a 360 or PS3. =(

I guess I have even more incentive to get one now. lol

I'm also still waitting for a Mechwarrior movie. Which should start shooting "aNy DaY nOw"

I just saw the extended trailer with the Warhammer and Atlas. I was very impressed by the city environment... not very impressed by the Atlas.

I am more of a twitch gamer so the mechs seemed to move too slowly for me. I don't get much enjoyment from strategy.

Yeah, the full trailer was what I meant. The city does look pretty cool. The little details like the cars in the parking garage, give a sense of how big these mechs are. I liked the reveal of atlas. Not exactly the mech you want to accidentally bump into. =D Atlas was always a heavy hitter.

As far as the gameplay goes, to each his own. =)

Man, if I had an army of these during our Classic Battletech games this past year...

Unfortunately, we didn't have enough placards then.
