FOE Mech by Mecha-Zone FOE Mech by Mecha-Zone
I made this mech drawing for a show called Rise of the Robots at a gallery named FOE in Northampton, MA. It's an original design and is not affiliated with Battletech or any other series.

Markers and pens
10" x 14.25"
Deleter coated paper

I hate to admit it, but this took me about 7 hours. I really had a blast drawing it!!!

Extremely nice . I especially like the detail work, since all of them seem very functional, like they actually do something.

It may not be affiliated with Battletech/Mechwarrior, but it sure would fit in that universe!

7 hours... well, given the level of detail this were well spend hours, iŽd say.

It's a great looking piece, Dave. Sure, 7 hours - but it's all there. Well worth the time. Great design, too. Has more of a Heavy Gear feel than Battletech (which I prefer). So is the show up now... or coming soon? I've been working with a few different FOE artists recently.

I don't know if they will be there or not. Never met them before so it would be nice if they show up.

the hands... what are they?

There are no hands, only guns. Armor plates on the sides. I imagined the guns as some sort of concentrated energy discharge and the ribbing on the barrels is both a containment field, accelerator, and heat dissipation system.

Thanks for answer. Just wondering: where did you det your knowledge about technic? From the internet or some kind of technical college of university?

I believe that all knowledge comes from observation of some sort. I look at real machines and take note of interesting shapes and ideas. I read science articles online and in magazines. I took electronics class in high school as well as small engines (basic engine repair class), machine shop, and drafting. Then I went to art college. Everything adds up and I continue to practice and observe every day.

Someone else said that too. Maybe a couple of someones. No denying that a Daishi torso is very utilitarian and I have drawn them a few times in the past to that shape is stuck in my brain somewhere.

what are the giant fins on the shoulder cannon for? It looks like a very tough bruiser mech :D

I imagined that they would be used as part of the targeting system. There's a little camera just under it between the snub cannon and it uses that fin to accurately determine angle and distance.
