Battletech: Osprey by Mecha-Zone Battletech: Osprey by Mecha-Zone
The Osprey has been a fan-favorite mech for almost 20 years but wasn't an officially recognized design until the recently released Technical Readout 3085. It was my honor to design the final look for the mech.

An official mini has already been released by Iron Wind Metals! Very exciting!!! I have one and will post a picture of it sometime.

I had 19 illustrations in TRO 3085. [link]

Damn, that thing looks nice. Low-profile and still a decent amount of fire-power.

Thanks! There was some existing art for this mech, but I was given freedom in revising the design and had a lot of fun with it.

Nice work, David. Always good to see these nice clean lines of yours. :)

This design looks great, but I kinda wonder how mean it would look with an additional chin mounted chaingun. ;)

Oh, cool. So you have permit to post them all here? That's nice.
Since I never cared for non-canon designs I had to dig out the BattleTechnology 12 to see how the old drawing in there looked. Not thaaat bad, but like a twisted mix of Marauder, Catapult with some Champion-touch.:puke:;)
Your Osprey looks pretty cool and its one of my favorites in the TRO3085.
I just wonder if the image differs a lil from the stats. On the image it looks like it has a medium and a small laser in each arm, while the stats say only in the left and the right sports a medium and a BAP. Whatever, it looks cool and I like how its shown in action in running pose.
I even don't mind that is has these wing-alike arms which I hate on the Champion.;P

This pic shows the mini: [link]

I really like this one. It does everything right that the Champion does wrong (the whole "aerospace fighter with legs" look, in particular).

Hey, I looked up the champion and the drawing I saw looks pretty good. I can imagine it looking cooler, but not bad relative to many of the other mechs. I know a mecha can look different depending on which image of that mech you see so here's the one I saw... [link]

Yeah that's the one. It's not the worst old mech design, but it's definitely on my list of least favorites. Imagine how horrible its stride would be, with those legs. Ugh.

This is a very cool design, especially the arced shape of the cockpit.

Yes, I agree that it does resemble the Osiris a little.

Very interesting canopy design and the missile rack shapes, based on the original?

I did have to take some visual cues form the original fan design. The missile ports are that shape because they can shoot a variety of missiles in succession. I forget exactly what that sort of missile system is called :(

I believe the technical term is the Overkill Missiles or OKM. Interesting...not sure that sounds safe but most war machines aren't :D

I may be thinking of the Osiris, but I think it was in one of the MekTek expansions for Mechwarrior IV: Mercenaries? Or maybe the Crysis mod...*Scratches his head.* I may have had a brainfart.

That's OK. The Osprey does have some resemblance to the Osiris anyway.

I remember the Osprey being one of the oldest designs published in BattleTechnology magazine. Gives me hope that my old Clytemnestra might see the light of day. Heh.

It never had an official appearance, but here's the best way I can describe it:

Imagine an egg laying on its side. The narrower end would be the front of the torso and the blunter end would be rear. The cockpit/head would be a sort of WW2 fighter-plane style bubble. Above and behind the cockpit would be a Marauder-style Ultra-class AC/5 autocannon. On the right shoulder is a tube-shaped SRM-6. The arms of the Clytemnestra were meant to mimic praying mantis, ending in long, dagger-like, tri-fingered claws. (Clytemnestra used a dagger to kill her husband Agamemnon in Greek myth). The right arm also sported a large pulse laser mounted Thunderbolt-style.

The lower torso (hips) were stout and rounded like the rest of the body. The lower part of the legs had a rounded bell shape with large, three-toed feet meant to keep the 'Mech stable in arena combat.

She weighed in at 65 tons, all told.

Thanks! To be honest, the word genius makes me very uncomfortable. I have met people who are real geniuses and I am not even close to their league. I just try to draw cool stuff and sometimes I get lucky ;)
