Battletech: Falcon by Mecha-Zone Battletech: Falcon by Mecha-Zone
This is my illustration for the Firefly Battlemech from the Battletech book "Historical: Operation Klondike". You can buy the book from your local game store or order it online. It's a great book and I highly recommend it!

This image is at 72 dpi... my original file was created at 600 dpi.

This is the fourth of 8. I'll post them weekly.

Here's the original desings first appearance [link]
And here's the newer version that I worked from [link]

nice save!  Especially the goofy chicken neck/cockpit fix!  Sadly I think too many Battletech designs are so poorly done that nothing short of a complete re-work can save them (em... Hoplite and Hornet, anyone?) , but you managed to prove the Falcon isn't one of them!

you'll have to check the Catalyst web site for that kind of info. I just do art. I do have a copy of the book but I don't actually play so... I don't know the answers to your questions. :(

I checked, its new sets of rules and campaigns for people to play out, somehting I wouldnt need,I dont play CBT either, too complicated, and too expensive,15 bucks for 1 CBT unpainted figure, screw that,I could buy the whole dark age set with that, and I did,but Youd think the book would tell you that, wierd.

I love these new mechs, and after opening my Operation Klondike, I remembered how much I loved the Mech Artwork, and after seeing these, I realize YOU did it, which makes the book twice as awesome.

BTW, even though you haven't posted it, the Imp made me chuckle a little.

Thanks man. The Imp was my arch nemesis for that project. I tried sooooo hard to change it more and make it awesome but they just wouldn't let me.

Never been a fan of the design. The old looked not even dangerous at all but rather a lil ridiculous. Like a harmless toy-Mech. Brent Evans does great work and his illustrations in the TRO3050U really improved even the bad designs. But his Falcon still has this harmless simple toy-appearance beeing so narrow-chested. This is the first I'd even think about using. Because the Klondike-Modell is the first with some punch and cos you finally made the Falcon look like it can be a threat. I think its mostly because of the more streamlined "ears" and the wider chest with the jump-jets in the armpits...which is the best feature on this.
I wish you'd make new illustrations for all the new Royal-variants too adding some more aggressiveness on some.

Wow, I can't beliee how goofy looking the other two versions of this thing were. I think the main problem was the neck, but there was also something about the arms on the old one that worked about as well as a "Kick Me" sign.

That being said, your version fixes that - I'd actually have to consider for a moment before shooting at this thing.

it's always the little things that make a difference. Of course a cool pose does wonders for a bland mech too.

Yeah, and there's no denying that the pose you picked for the Falcon makes it look very cool.

By the way, I'm still trying to hammer out the design for the Amarok, and I'm having to do something I don't ordinarily do - parts sketches, mainly for the arms and torso.

cool, thanks. Lights tend to look lame, but I don't know why. I think people just rush the drawings too much.

I think it's because they tend to think that 'light' means that they need small torsos and thin limbs.

That's not true, I think. Most 'Mechs have a set amount of internal volume, and that same volume internally coupled with the same impressively bulky look your Falcon sports...well, it implies thin armor.

Which is as it should be!
