Battletech: Daedalus by Mecha-Zone Battletech: Daedalus by Mecha-Zone
This is my illustration for the Daedalus Battlemech from the Battletech book "Historical: Operation Klondike". You can buy the book from your local game store or order it online. It's a great book and I highly recommend it!

This image is at 72 dpi... my original file was created at 600 dpi.

This is the 7th of 8.

This was a new design for the book. Very utilitarian and boring.

Here's the sketch with working grappler...

I always enjoy seeing non-military mecha around.

Does this one run off a diesel engine?

I don't know for sure, but I don't think so. The diesel engine stuff is mostly from the dark ages timeline as far as I know.

YES! I like to see more than just robosoldiers!

One of my faave anime was PatLabour where 'Labour/mechs' were mainly used as construction equipment.

Any other 'not-just-battle' mechs?

Cool. You don't see many worker mechs in fiction for some odd reason.

I know what you mean. I don't even know how this mech fits into Battletech gameplay but I think there is a variant of it with some weapons instead of the loading arms.

Really like the practicality of this thing. There's a ton of skill that goes into making something look both mecha-y, and yet still functional and utilitarian. Awesome.

My little brother yelled over my shoulder, "COOL!!" when I was admiring your work. :aww:
I think the original sketch had a better mechanical hand design. Otherwise, I think it's very cool too.

I, too, have a soft spot for industrial mechs. xD

It is impossible for the hand to lift up containers, bacause it can not grab them if the platform is full...!

Yes, unfortunately, you are right. I have uploaded the original sketch that had a working system if you would like to see it...

Hur hur technicalities, this thing wouldn't be a battlemech.

That aside, I like it. You might think it's boring but I like seeing into other bits of the canon besides mech warfare.

I'm having a difficult time figuring out how big this thing is, though. Those look like railings there for spotters to stand on and direct the crane operator, which makes the mech look pretty damn huge.

Honestly, I've known this thing has existed for roughly thirty seconds, and I've already thought up an awesome way to use it in battle.

Load up a crate with very volatile explosives (stuff that would be triggered by impact) and have the crane on that thing pick it up, and slam the crate into the nearest enemy Mech. While this industrial Mech would probably go down under a rain of fire immediately after, that little surprise attack would be worth it.

I think there were some combat variants where weapons were placed on the deck and the grapple arms were replace with some sort of guns.

Oh, that could work too, I suppose.

Not as awesome as hitting the enemy in the face with explosives, though.

For the past few weeks I've been intensely at war w/ my soft spot. Mission complete conditions: no more jiggle!
Sitting on your duff drawing all day is like kryptonite for your bod. Sucks. I hate cardio, but if it keeps me drawing longer, I'll do it.

Stay away from that fast food shit man. It ain't even food. Except for subway sandwiches. Spicy Italian + the works ATW!!

I really like to see designs for civilian vehicles, like construction vehicles and utility vehicles. This is a really excellent concept for a non-combat mech.
