A-10 jet and mecha hybrid by Mecha-Zone A-10 jet and mecha hybrid by Mecha-Zone
Can you believe that I totally forgot about drawing this mech? All the talk about the A-10 in a recent poll I posted jogged my memory.

I drew this A-10 inspired walker mech back in 2005 for Quarto Publishing's book, "50 Robots to Draw and Paint".

The drawing is really crappy :( Look at how terrible those missile housings are! I would use a template now to make the ellipses better. Still, it's a pretty cool mech.

Cool design!
I like how it resembles an A-10 but isn't super blindingly obviously an A-10, if you know what I mean.

You might look into putting a gun under the chin to evoke the A-10 look even more?

interesting mecha, how about remastering the drawing for a future book (correcting an old drawing should take less time ) ?

I loved this mech fro 50 Robots as well.

I understand what you mean by trouble with ellipses, and yet I keep drawing stuff that needs them!!

You ought to go ahead and try another A-10 type mech that has massive jet engine nacelles, and leave the missiles on winglets or in box launchers.

I'm definitely going to do another A-10 mecha, but It might be a while because business seems to be picking up again (thank goodness!).

It looks great!

The missle elipses arent the thing that looks wrong to me, their close enough to not stand out. Its the left cannon's (the mech's right, i guess) elipse which looks the most off and makes the cannon twisted.

still the overall mech rocks my socks off...! :D

Heh. I actually found the clown shoes to be the most difficult feature to ignore - the rest is acceptable.

You'd have a hard time walking with feet like that.

Good job on the shading too!

I think the A-10 refer A-10 warthog tank killer, seem different then I thought.

Nice leg design!

It's more similar to the MadCat model, I tend to see more of the Cobra attack copter in this one than the A-10 Thunderbolt. I think the thighs should be more well-built in order to increase stability and reduce shock from missiles attacks.

As cool as this looks, I hope to see a lot of improvement in whichever jet you use from the poll. This simply doesn't feel A-10 at all. Cool and all, but just off the mark.

To make it more A-10 like, it should have just one large Gatling gun, and look more simple and solid, and less pretty. :P

well, this one was made 5 years ago and was merely "inspired by" an A-10 so I will definitely do a better job on the new one.

Well it's based on the Warthog so any mistakes are easily forgivable. I like the striding pose and the streamlined design, although for a nitpick, the missile pods are pretty off in size. ^^

Even though the ellipses are off, as you confessed, I still think this one is pretty damn cool! Generally dig this shading and color style. At first glance of the thumbnail, I actually thought this was the A-10 mech.

would that 50 robots book be the one w/ some Keith Thompson art as well? Title sounds familiar.

Yes, that's the one. I think he was actually the author of those two books, but not 100% sure. I felt a bit weird about that because each artists was responsible for writing the text that was featured on his/her pages so all the hard work was done by the individual artists. I'm sure some of the stuff had to be heavily edited and corrected but my text was printed literally unchanged (without any writing credit).

No writing credits for you? Aw, that's kinda cheap.

The publisher/editor should've at least tagged an "et all" onto the author listing.

I've had my eye out for this book, but never able to get a peek. :hmm: Seems odd then that his name is the only one on the spine. And here I thought he was the exclusive artist/writer of that one. Apparently not! Still, I can't help being a big fan...
